The impact of Cyclone Arnab, which formed over the Bay of Bengal, has turned tragic with casualties reported across the southern states on Wednesday.

In Andhra Pradesh, three persons have died in cyclone-related incidents, officials confirmed. According to the district administration, two deaths were reported from Bhimavaram in West Godavari district, where a man was killed after a tree collapsed on him, while another person died due to electrocution after an electric pole fell in strong winds. The third death was reported from the coastal belt.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who reviewed the situation, announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh each to the families of the deceased. He also pulled up the Prakasam district collector over waterlogging in several colonies in Ongole town.

The effect of the system has been more severe in Tamil Nadu. The state revenue department said 14 people have died in the last 48 hours due to heavy rain, landslides and wall collapses triggered by the northeast monsoon and the cyclonic circulation.

In the Nilgiris, 62 landslides were reported, cutting off road connectivity to Ooty and Kodaikanal and suspending rail services.
