Andhra Pradesh has scored a major industrial victory over neighbouring Tamil Nadu by attracting investments worth ₹1,614 crore from three South Korean automobile component manufacturers supplying Hyundai and Kia.
The three companies — Hwashin, Seoyon and Iwamet — are expected to strengthen the automobile manufacturing ecosystem around Kia's existing facility at Penukonda in Sri Sathya Sai district, giving a fresh push to Rayalaseema's industrial prospects.
Hwashin has committed ₹850 crore, with an employment potential of 100 jobs, while Seoyon will invest ₹514.17 crore and generate around 918 jobs. Iwamet has proposed an investment of ₹250 crore, creating another 400 employment opportunities. Together, the projects are expected to generate 1,418 jobs.
The investment commitments are being seen as a significant outcome of the state government's efforts to attract overseas industries and expand its automobile component manufacturing base.
The developments also underline the growing importance of the Penukonda-Sri Sathya Sai district industrial corridor, which has gained prominence following Kia's entry into Andhra Pradesh.
For Rayalaseema, the proposed investments could mean more than fresh factories. They offer the prospect of new jobs, ancillary industries, business opportunities and a stronger industrial identity.
