A landmark business moment turned emotional when Anant Ambani’s heartfelt speech at Jio Platforms’ stock market debut left his father, Mukesh Ambani, visibly moved. His use of Telugu also drew attention, adding a regional touch to the high-profile ceremony in Mumbai.
Addressing the gathering on Wednesday, Anant described business as worship, comparing the ringing of the stock exchange bell to a temple bell. He said Jio’s success should be shared with India, likening the distribution of its benefits to offering prasad after a puja.
Anant paid tribute to his grandfather, Dhirubhai Ambani, for dreaming big despite humble beginnings, and credited his father with advancing India’s industrial and digital ambitions. His emotional words appeared to strike a personal chord with Mukesh, who was seen wiping tears as the family reflected on its journey.
He also praised his siblings, Akash and Isha Ambani, describing the three as separate bodies with one soul, united by a shared commitment to the family’s vision.
The emotional scene unfolded against a major financial milestone. Jio Platforms shares opened at Rs 1,358, around 21% above the issue price of Rs 1,119.
For the Ambanis, the day was about more than a market debut. It was a celebration of family, legacy and the millions of Indians who helped build Jio.
