The Musi Riverfront project has emerged as another flashpoint between the Congress government and the BRS, with a reported police action against opposition leaders adding to the controversy. BRS leader Sabitha Indra Reddy and her son Karthik Reddy were reportedly placed under house arrest ahead of a public hearing on the project.
BRS working president K T Rama Rao condemned the action, alleging that the government was restricting opposition voices. The dispute also centres on the project's cost, the possible displacement of residents and rehabilitation arrangements. The government has presented the project as an urban development initiative, while the BRS has raised concerns about its impact on affected families. The competing claims have made the project a major political issue in Hyderabad.
